Hi, thanks for visiting my Kuroshitsuji shrine! I'd love to talk with other fans, but I'd like to get it out of the way that I personally do NOT like SebaCiel or any of its romantic/sexual variations. I could list my reasons why, but the bottom line is that it squicks me out and I think the warped familial aspects of their bond is more fascinating. If you do ship SebaCiel, that's your own opinion. Just please don't call me delusional for not liking a ship between fictional characters. Thanks, and enjoy looking through my webpage!

i like the funny british people manga.

Kuroshitsuji, or Black Butler, is a manga by Yana Toboso that started running in G-Fantasy in 2006. Initially planned to be shorter, this 'chaotic butler manga' grew in rapid popularity, and is still running, with an anime adaptation, OVAs, musicals, and a live-action movie. Set in a fictionalized Victorian England, the plot follows 13-year-old Ciel Phantomhive and his demon butler Sebastian Michaelis going on seedy secret missions for Queen Victoria, and hopefully getting revenge on the people who orchestrated the tragic death of Ciel's whole family.

What I did not expect going into this series when I did was for it to be super, super funny. Like yes, it is a dark-ass drama that delves deep into fictional England's criminal underworld and is rapidly spiralling towards inevitable tragedy, and I eat that up. but it also has exceptionally silly moments. and I eat that up too. For the most part, it balances the trauma and the wackiness pretty well. That takes skill. It does whatever it wants, and it does those decently.

Kuroshit is also super-well-planned. Like, there's a crazy, perspective-changing plot twist in Chapter 130 (if you know you know), and there are hints to it as FAR BACK AS CHAPTER 30. Those may be coincidental, but I think those were intentional. I'm convinced Yana-sensei and her team are mad, evil geniuses. at least currently.

"There are two types of people in this world; those who steal, and those who are stolen from."

this kid is like a hamster to me. like, in the meme, lowkey-animal-abuse way where i think hes cute and i want good things for him but i also want to watch as he marches towards his inevitable gruesome death like its wired into his very capillaries. he is the white rat i study in a lab and force to run mazes. he is a rodent.

Ciel's main character tragedy stems from the fact that he is one-hundred-percent a hardened, traumatized, vengeful CEO spiralling towards his own doom, but he is also empathetically a kid. None of these things are mutually exclusive, or cancel each other out. He is deeply disillusioned and capable of horrible cruelty for his own selfish reasons, but he also likes stuffed toys and sweets and playing games. It's a crazy dichotomy. The whole Cult Incident, as well as ascending to the title of Earl at the age of 12, forced him to grow up too fast, so he acts unnervingly and horribly like an adult, while reverting back to that ten-year-old in the spaces that his artificial adulthood doesn't cover. That's what he is to me. I think he should be portrayed by fans as eerie and horror-ish in that way more often.

Another horribly tragic thing about this guy is his fixation on revenge. He sees everything that was important to him as having been destroyed that one night everything happened, or maybe the day he made a contract with Sebastian. The only thing left for him is revenge. By the goals he has created for himself, he's denying himself any humanity. I can't say he's not interested in it. However.

THIS PANEL. What Soma said here is probably one of the most important Ciel character moments. "He's aware of all the love around him, but he refuses to accept it". Because the plan he's formulated in his head VERY CLEARLY includes him fucking dying at the end.
(see more about the contradictory and insane effect of Sebastian's influence on Ciel and his environmet in the Sebastian tab)

ok but i'm gonna be real here. Ciel is so funny as a character to think about. haha. boss baby. emo kid. Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge listener. hater of the world. horse girl. kuroshit is just Like That i guess. horribly sad and tragic but also somehow the goofiest shit on the face of the earth. thats what i like about it.

Sebastian Michaelis, butler to the young Earl Phantomhive, is one of the most silliest guys to ever exist.
